Came home today with 5 nice wrenches--two especially.
One is a nice patina 1942-45 CRAFTSMAN (underlined) # 1031.
The other a Proto pebble open end in 13/16 by 3/4. It is marked 1039-S. What does the S stand for? The wrench is 8 1/2, certainly not short. AA is silent
Any thoughts?

The S is for Special, as in special order, typically an unusual length, finish or combination of sizes. A factory or equipment maker would order these for their own special needs. They're not exactly rare, but unusual

Funny this should come up this morning. I was "organizing" my Plomb DOEs just yesterday and noticed one or two that also had a "-S" part number. Looks like some research is in order. If you're on GG, maybe ask Conductor?

Thank you, Harry. I'd love to know more about this wrench.
Does anyone know if 13/16 by 3/4" is an unusual combination for a Proto # 3039 or if 8 1/2" an unusual length?
Thanks again.

Go to my site: toolarchives.com/ and type 3039 in the search. 3039 is supposed to be 3/4 x 7/8

So, mine is just a pinch smaller on one end. I'm guessing that is a mystery that will never be solved.
Thanks, Twertsy!
