Title: Big 10" adjustable alligator?

I'm a sucker for these oddballs. No maker markings on it that I can find. It looks pretty much brand new.

A new one on me! The holes in the handle- tells us about those, please?

The holes are marked 12, 14 and 17 - metric. But, the markings on the jaw face (which you can barely make out in one of the pictures) is an inch.

Unusual to say the least! Alligator I get, But why the twist, it puts weakness exactly where you don't want it? Or am I missing something?
