Title: Billings and spencer 9.5" screwdriver No 1
Post by: Offwith on August 16, 2016, 05:51:45 AM
Dear all

This isn't really a mystery item, as it says what it is on it! But I was looking for info and thought this probably the best forum to bung the thread (let me know if it isn't, as its my first proper posting).

I have just cleaned up an 9.5" cast slotted screwdriver I picked up car-booting ages ago. It has the scripts "The B & S Co" and "Hartford Conn. USA" on the handle flutes - not unusual in itself - but has "No 1" quite clearly stamped on the blade tip. I can find info on No:21 screwdrivers (Alloy Artifacts etc), but no mention of the No1. Can anyone shed any light regarding age, if it came in a vehicle kit, rarity etc? We don't see too much Billings stuff on this side of the pond (Wales), although I have a very nice set of tool-post wrenches, so asking around at shows and events has so far drawn a blank!

Diolch yn fawr (Thank-you very much!)

Phil
