Title: A Plomb and a mystery
Post by: Northwoods on October 27, 2016, 03:42:12 PM
Pulled two box end wrenches out of a box this morning.

One is     1 5/16....1155 (bob) PLVMB (bob) MADE IN U S A....1 1/4     (17 1/2 inches long)

The other is    1 1/16        CALIF-TOOL        1 1/4     (16 1/2 inches long)

They are as alike as a big brother and his sidekick.  They have the same look.  I read the comments in AA, but came away about as confused as before.  I know there is some kind of A. Plomb connection, but the smaller wrench has no a. Plomb mark.

Any thoughts?

A PLOMB is for Alphonse Plomb, and I had a combo wrench so marked some years ago. Also had the CALIF TOOL mark on it.

Can't remember the Plomb connection, though.

California Tool Co was a "distributor" / HW outfit.  Many manufacturers supplied them.

I finally found my Plomb  box end No. 1151.
Like the CALIF-TOOL, it is 1 1/16" X 1 1/4".
They are strikingly similar in form.  But the Plomb is about 1/4" longer and has better "fit and finish".
Clearly, they are related.
