Title: Who made these and what are they for?
Post by: Plyerman on January 29, 2017, 07:14:56 PM
Nine inches long, and very well made. I got them in a lot buy with a bunch of other misc plier tools. As can be seen in the photos, there is a razor blade-like feature on one jaw, with a hole punch next to that. Odd, there is nothing on the opposite jaw. The razor and the hole punch never come into contact with the opposite jaw either. Perhaps there is a part missing?

Also has a brass "stop" whose position can be adjusted with a thumb screw.

No markings of any kind. Any thoughts?

Bob, they look a little like a button hole cutter. I think there is a piece missing from the bottom jaw.I have no idea who made them.

The handles are shaped like a set of C.S. Osborne punch pliers I own - for what that's worth.

Here is another manufacturer, and more information on it.

I was wondering how it worked and looked at my Levi jeans with a button. The button hole is oblong, so the punch must make the wider side.

Wow, you guys are good! Thanks fellas, I was pretty sure it had something to do with cloth or leather, but beyond that I was stumped.

Hmm, looking through the examples in the links, they all have some sort of rotating brass barrel (with different length shoes) for the blade and punch to come up against. Mine must have worked differently somehow, before it's brass shoe went missing. Ah well, at least I know what it is now.

The second plier here is  similar to the second plier in the below link.
