What is it and does anyone need it? Two different pliers fell into my bucket this weekend. The only marking I can find on #1 is: 08W0 cast into the handle and it's 8 1/4" long. #2 says C.S. Osborne & Co. Harrison, NJ and it's 7" long.

First one looks like a Nut Cracker. Cant see the top in the pictures.
-
The top one looks like mig welding pliers. The bottom one looks like tire chain crimpers or hog ring tool.
-
Thanks Ken, I'm not a welder so that was a new one for me. Looked them up on line and it looks like an exact copy.
-
I think Ken W. has it right mig welding pliers and C.S. Osborne made leather and upholstery tools so hog ring pliers it is.
-
I could use the welding pliers. How much will they cost?

Agreed.
-
Curious: what are the requirements of MIG welding that call for that particular plier design?
-
Hog ring pliers but with that smaller head, be great for upholstery work.
-
being an Osborne tool, most likely was for upholstery work.
-
The MIG pliers are made to disassemble the MIG welding gun head for cleaning and repair.

Bill H
here's a pretty good explanation of mig pliers from over at the Welding Web forum.
mig pliers uses
1) Cutting off the burned wire before starting a new bead.
2) Removing the contact tip from the gun.
3) Cleaning spatter out of the gun nozzle.
4) Removing the gun gas diffuser.
5) Holding down a print so it doesn't blow away.
6) Propping up a piece to hold it in place for welding.
7) Pulling out pesky nose hairs
8) . . .

The Osborne catalog that I have lists those as the No. 440 Hog Ring Pliers for setting standard hog ring clips. I think they are referring to those small hog ring like clips used in upholstery work, particularly automotive upholstery, which are smaller than a regular hog ring used on hogs.
