There's a place I've been buying a number of old machines out of over the last couple months, and there's still a few things I mean to go back for... But I'm not sure what this one is....
When I first saw it, I thought it was some sort of radial arm chop saw... I took the picture below at the time, and it's the only picture I have at the moment, sorry. Yesterday, I saw a picture of a surface grinder, and got super excited thinking that I had access to a pair of them very cheap. But, I dug out my picture, and while it's very similar, it's not quite identical...
So what is it? The machine is 5 or so feet tall, and they were buried behind and beneath all kinds of stuff, hence the limited picture...
Thanks

Masonry saw was my first thought but really haven't got a clue.

Looks to me like an abrasive saw for cutting steel. We called them chop saws. Ours used 16 inch blades. Usually had to throw them away when they got down to 10 inches or so.
You sure do get lots of sparks and dust, but they'll cut most anything, although I suppose aluminum would be a little problematic.

Hello, I agree with Mike. I worked for a shop where we cut a lot of cable, metal studs, threaded rod, etc, and angle iron, on one of those. Regards, Lou

I've got a chop saw, a little benchtop 14" saw. My local steel yard has a honking big one they use to cut their steel, but it just looks like a giant version of mine... Neither of them really look anything like this... That's not to say that it is not, in fact, a chop saw, but if it is one, it is like none I have ever seen before...

Looks like you're going to have to dig deeper.
