Hello, I know what this is, there is a Patent Date on the other side, but that would be too easy. I searched through 150 Patents, and finally found it. It is 5" long, and is missing the teardrop shaped ring ( my rough drawing) that is a sliding clamp. This is used on a tapered round shaft for a repair on the end of the tapered shaft (wood). I picked this up, thinking it was a spile, for tapping maple trees. I wasn't even close!!!!!! The Patent Date is late 1800's, this is a very simple device. I paid $.50 apiece for 3 of these, there is a Buy It Now on ebay for ONE, (with clamp ring) for $299.95. I need to find someone to fabricate the clamp ring. Similar tools are still in use today, but are made of plastic, for approx. $3.00. yikes!!!!!!! Please let me know when to start dropping hints!!!!!

will someone pay 300,maybe never,.,.isnt it for gluing on a new tip for a cue stick

Hello, How in the world did you know that????? I'm not looking for the $300.00, I am just glad that I figured it out, before I put it with the spiles!!!!!!. Have you spent a few hours in the local pool hall? Many thanks, and you have solved this in record time!!!!, Lou

Lou, send me a detailed description and maybe a to scale drawing. I'm sure I could make the rings.

There was a similar one on one of the pages recently, but I don't remember where.
-
just sorting out what they ask and what they might get.,.,took me a little to remember, think i used one 50 years ago??.,.,dont hear much about pool anymore ???
-
You should have asked here before looking through all the patents. I have had a few of them, but never one with the clamping ring. Some are aluminum, but most I have had are cast iron.
-
Have had a need to use one of them on occasion through out most of my life.

Hello ,Call me crazy, but I enjoy wandering through the Patents!!!!!!!!!
-
Lptools, your not crazy, you are learning more about older inventions. if you remember 10% of what you saw,
it is worth the time. p.s. I do the same thing.

Thanks, Some of stuff that I see on the Patent Site are "Why didn't I think of that?" Others are "What were they thinking?????"

My Dad told me many long years ago that..."To shoot pool well is the mark of a gentleman, to shoot too well is the mark of an ill spent youth".
