Title: big heavy stooopid thing

I couldnt resist this at last nights auction

it is 7 inches high

base is 6 x 4 inches

weighs 7 pounds

it came with a wood handle stuck in it but not the right one

blacksmith tool?

Looks like a tamper to me -- for soil, gravel, asphalt patch, etc.

  I'm with tamper also,  perhaps for the old cobble stone roads ?

Just a guess, but it looks like a foot for a machine or a jack.
