Title: Brass Mystery Ruler

Anyone know the purpose of this brass mystery ruler? As seen in the photos, the increments are quarter inch, and the angle is 75 degrees.

Possibly the marker for a sun dial.

You suppose it is one of a set, each showing a different angle?  And then....

Officially known as "gnomon," which I presume has no relation to garden gnomes, although wouldn't it be fun to make a sundial in which the gnomon was a garden gnome?
