I'm reminded of Japanese copies of U.S. tools made prior to WWII.  Years ago at a Missouri  Valley Wrench Club meet, a member showed a pre-war Japanese socket set that was an exact copy of a Starrett 443 (patented in 1916), but with Japanese characters stamped on all the parts.
