Hi,
I'm hoping someone can tell me what kind of hammer this is, what it's used for and possibly a make.
Overall length is just over 16".
Face is 2 1/8" x 3"
Head is 5" long
Here's a couple images:

Markings on the hammer as you can see are FC 6 on one side and I take it a serial number on the other.

I take it this is some sort of large bump hammer?
On the face it looks like someone used it to pound a 1" metal rod as it's got a couple marks on it from doing so.
Any info would be appreciated.
Probably a HF special.. lol

Looks like a tire repair hammer to me, older style truck rims etc.

I believe that may be a hammer for thumping a pneumatic flooring nailer. Its possible the square end is used to bump the flooring up tight to the last piece before nailing. The rubber end is used to strike the cap of the air nailer.

I think Al is right. While it does resemble the tire hammer, it resembles the flooring mallet more.
If you google "flooring" mallet, you’ll find lots of them.

I did do a search on flooring mallets. And 99.9% of them look like this one.

The differences being pretty obvious.
The one I have posted has a urethane end not rubber and the shape of the other side quite different.
Given the differences, everyone still leaning towards it being a flooring mallet?

Hi Chase. Well, I was very busy earlier but things have eased up a bit here at work now. I went upstairs and looked at the flooring hammer heads that were "retired". They are exactly like the ones in your picture right down to the cast numbers. The handles have been "rescued" and used to repair a couple shop hammers. They also are identical in the light color wood and carved rings as hand grip.
They were in such bad shape from rental abuse that we replaced them with ordinary and much less expensive rubber mallets. They are probably well over ten years old.

That would be my vote, too.
Out in the rathole, I've got a bag with a floor nailer, hammer, and boxes of nails. It's in a spot that I can't quite reach safely, so I can't confirm my memory; but I recollect a shape similar to the picture in your original post. I'd never thought about the uses of the flat metal end, but it does make sense that the rectangular shape could slide along the floor against a block of wood (scrap of flooring) used to knock a new strip of flooring into place before nailing.

Okay,
I see how the flat end might be used now. Sliding flat face on the floor pulling it towards you to knock in the board. Away to pull up a board I presume since it has the chisel edge to it.
I guess that's when flooring boards were full thickness rather than this 1/4" stuff they sell these days. Lol
Shame there's no name on it. Or brand ID that I can tell.
From what I understand the previous owner was a contractor and into carpentry so a flooring hammer does make sense.

PS: I just took some scotch Brite to the edge. It's not FC6 it's FS 5 on it. Other number 40065

Not sure if it's an R or D or something else as the first letter or number.
Any idea?

I have a couple of the older flooring nailers with hammers, and the hammers are just like yours.

Any idea who they're made by.. or this one might be made by?
