Title: Owatonna socket wrenches
Post by: coolford on February 25, 2019, 03:34:53 PM
I started collecting Owatonna Tool Co. socket wrenches some years ago, but was missing a couple.  I just got the last one, the smallest at the bottom.  This is a complete set according to the 1955 Catalog I have but seems some sizes are missing.  Does anyone have an older catalog?

Hey coolford,

That’s a great set!  What sizes are covered?  Are they 6 point or 12 point?  The wrenches sort of remind me of Saltus wrenches.

I have one of their 36 inch crescent style wrenches that adjusts with a bolt instead of a thumb screw. Maximum jaw opening is 4 3/4 inches. Marked with a previous owners name but the price was right at the time so it came home with me.

Now that's an adjustable wrench!

Les, are the Coes key wrenches on the outside also 36 inches? I picked up an 18 in. and a 48 in. this summer, but have never run across the 36.

I'll have to double check, one is 32 inches long, one is 48 inches long and I think the other one is 38 inches long but I'm not sure on the last one.

My mistake! I meant 28 in. not 18 inch.
Interestingly, the 48 in. one is actually 51 1/2 in. overall.

I was wrong too, 32", 37" & 39" are mine.

The reason I think there may be more sizes out there is the numbering sequence.  Also the fact that older wrenches often had overlaps, ie. the same sizes on two different wrenches.  I have some overlaps and missing No's.

My No's are 1214, missing, 1618, 1820, 2022, 2224, missing, 2628, missing, 3032.  So, I think there should be a 1416, 2426 and a 2830.  The 1955 catalog I have does not list the wrenches I consider missing, but does an older catalog list them?????
