Aluminum cross piece is flat on back side,  second photo shows relative size.  You can read the markings...

Looks kinda like a fan spacer for an engine. I had to buy one not too long ago, thicker than that, but they had some that looked quite similar. Sitting there with a few other automotive tools, also.

Pritch, you may be right.  It's about the right size for a fan spacer and with all the auto tools in this lot, very likely.  Possibly for a Toyota as there 3 Toyota specific tools in the lot.
