Hello, All. I got tired of not being able to open the drawers of the machinist box without moving something out of the way. I also needed the little bit of horizontal space that the top of the cabinet provided. I made the interior height of the riser a little bit taller than my drill index holding 6" drill bits. Most of the parts were cutoffs the basement stairs, not sure where the back came from, but I liked the look. Time to load it up!!! Stay safe everyone, please!!
I've done the same thing. It is a great idea.
Thanks!! Great minds think alike :cheesy:
Nice job, I cheated I bought a riser for my Gerstner cabinets to match the walnut boxes.
Nice job! Hope you are not a short guy.
I am a short guy, 5'-7", if I stand up straight!!!!!! But, by sheer luck, the decimal/fractional chart ended up perfectly dead center at eye level!!
hmmmm....Craftsman box looks a lot like Kennedy. I actually have a riser (I think that size) i brought home from the Restore because they were going to dumpster it... if we were closer i would just give it to you.
Hello, p_toad. Thanks, if we were closer, I would take you up on your offer!!! I had fun building this riser!! The box was made by Kennedy for Craftsman!! Good eye!! Also, Waterloo made the smooth finish Machinist Boxes for Craftsman.
That box riser was a great idea and looks like professional work!! I gotta say that I really like the box on the riser too. I have an old craftsman machinist box but it doesn't have that chart in the lid. I wish there were reproduction/replacement versions available. Nice job!

My tool chest sits on top of my work bench. Every time I want to open a drawer and get a tool there is something in the way. In front of the chest
Great job Lou, but if you cut the pieces from the stairs, hw do you get out of the basement?
I ripped them out on the way up
It's not that bad. The only time he leaves the basement is to get more tools!
Nice piece, Lou. My riser is two 4x4 blocks. Cheap, ugly, but effective.
