I attempted to collect license plates, myself, briefly. My plan was to build a whimsical, cabin-y looking shed and roof it with plates. I still love the idea, but I had/have too much on my plate so the idea fell by the wayside. I would love to run into a pile of a couple hundred somewhere, someday. That would make it easy. I even put an add on Craigslist, asking for them once. I thought it was odd that I got more than one person who thought I was planning to try using them.
In '08 I visited a bar in the middle of BFE Austria with American plates on the wall. It was really neat, to be so far from home and run into that... When I got home I sent the owner one 1974 Minnesota plate from my matching set, as promised. He gave me a shot of some regional berry schnapps while I was there so I had to follow through. :)
And those are my plates stories! :)

Old license plates are fun to collect. We sold our collection back in 1975 to a car dealer in Chicago, ILL. to make the down payment on the house bought then, in Idaho. We had all the Idaho plates from 1913 to 75.
Funny story: I had found a 1917 Idaho plate out on the Arco desert about 20 miles south of Arco. When I showed it to my brother who lived 35 miles north of Arco, up in Mackay, Id. he got a funny look on his face and went out to his garage and brought in the mate to mine. He had found it some 60 miles north of where I had found mine.

I have some British Columbia plate duplicates, mostly just singles from the 1960's and 1970's. I'm not sure exactly what I have as the're stashed away in boxes in one of my sheds. I'd be interested in trading for other Canadian plates. Let me know if anyone is interested. Jim

I picked this off of an ebay site. Something that you can do with excess plates.

I primarily collect them and put them up in the garage but I also build birdhouses out of spares or lesser quality one.

So I'm not a super serious collector but I started to try and collect all the US plates without paying cash for them. I now have 8 states left. (and 11 Canadian provences:) and 187 countries:)
Anyway I looked at your list and was wondering if you would like to swap for any of my plates. the doubles from your list that I have are missouri, RI and ME and I found an extra NV that I didn't picture. Oh and I threw in a pic of a badly beat Honduran plate

I've had this thought to shingle a shed using license plates for quite a while. 8-9 years ago I put a ad on CL looking for license plates and the only response I got was from someone implying that I was trying to use them on my car... I know older plates are collectible and thar some are worth more than others, but I would just like to get plates that are cheaper. Anyone have any ideas where I can look? Thanks.
