As promised I paid a visit to the tool store today in an effort to accurately date the Thorsen catalogs. No luck with anything Thorsen in that store. HOWEVER - Let's talk Proto
Apparently the store has been in business (as they told me) since "...long before the 50s with this set of owners". They are Proto dealers, and have been for all those years.
I won't say what it cost me to get out of that store, but I wanted to share some of the NEW OLD STOCK things I picked up.

I'll tell you this - if a person is in need of anything NOS Proto they should absolutely reach out to me via PM. Good chance we may find it for you....common wrenches excluded. NO - he wouldn't let go of NOS Plomb marked stuff......at least not at my price.

Those ignition sets are AWESOME!!!
Love that little proto set with the pliers in it!! I'm drooling!!!

That would be Drool Store Visit....
Very nice, now you need a Proto display board.....(ducking)
(You know, the store probably has an extra one in the back room somewhere...)

<throwing cheesy Taiwanese socket> No more tool displays until this one is complete. I have no idea where I'm going to put it. Wife says certainly not in house and no budget for new garage for spending on tool displays :(
The spare Proto boards - No - they are in the storage building next door....he already said :)

Awesome stuff!
I might be interested in one of each screwdriver if you're selling...
-
I know someone in Iowa that would be interested in the NOS Plomb!!!! Proto ain't a bad 2nd choice either!!

Oh yes - I've been like a kid in the candy store since I got back home.

I know someone in Iowa that would be interested in the NOS Plomb!!!!
He showed them to me, let me touch them, hold them, then quickly took them all back to their resting pillow saying "they're NOT for sale"..............later stating, after I asked if something was sacred, "anything here is for sale". I knew I didn't want to pay what it would take to get them.

Astonishing stuff!

You actually brought that loot home!! Wow!
Outstanding!

Now we at least know who has the big bucks to spend :)

Past tense - with the little I might have had. That was my most expensive two day visit to the tool store ever.

Oily,
Was Mrs. Rascal with you? How did she react to having a second mortgage? Great find BTW, it's like you found a wrench time machine.

When I originally started this thread I had two drivers in my mind; 1) natural desire to share as I was proud of the goodies I'd found, 2) to give folks an exciting reason to want to find something Thorsen to trade, and 3) to publish to a very focused group of tool collectors an opportunity I could help them with should they choose to get in on the loot. I've offered every single person, no exceptions, from tooltalk the opportunity to get whatever that store might have at cost - with me doing the leg work. I suppose that isn't enough.
Sadly one person has continued to persist in knowing exactly where this store is despite my having told them multiple times I didn't care to share and that I'd help them in any way.
For this reason I'll not be publishing such information in the future. I'm very disappointed in this lesson learned.

I enjoyed the post and pictures although they aren't my type of wrenches to collect. I am glad to see that there are still hidden NOS stashes of old wrenches out there to be found. Sorry to hear that you feel you were/are being hounded by someone else trying to get into your find. I hope you still share your finds with us in the future.

Lewill I appreciate your comments! I just had to vent, and I did. I neglected to underline the point I had which was simply to think about such issues as your posting information. I didn't think past the 3 things I shared.

Sorry guy, there always seems to be one who won't take no for an answer. Many of us understand the joy of finding (and keeping) your own little honeypot of tools, and that you were being very generous in offering to share some of the loot. I hope you will reconsider, it has been fun both seeing what still hides out there, and knowing that some of it still does, in fact, hide in the little nooks and crannies of the world.....

Oily has been fair in offering to chase down tools at that store, and is right in keeping the location to himself.
He has said he is keeping it to himself, and anyone pestering him is going too far.

I live in Australia so where this store is has no interest to me, that said and done I would never ask the location of your find. This thread has been great and I've really enjoyed looking at what you have posted Oily.
Please don't chuck us all in the same bucket as whoever has been hassling you. Love your work.

I concur.
Oily has very generously offered to sell me some items at cost. I don't know how anyone can reasonably expect more than that!

Just tellem to piss off, you have to be direct with some people or they dont get the point
BTW I hope you didnt buy that as trading material for the stuff your lookin for, one of my biggest mistakes ( no big deal really, its only money and it comes and goes ) was to think that the stuff I was looking for would be next to impossible to find, after some time on here and doing flea bay I found out that often times it can be picked up for next to nothin. Especially the crap I am interested in so please keep that in mind
