Some flea goodies from today...
Anyone remember who made the toolbox with the wings on it?
Anyhow, it's going in my truck, as soon as I dump all the crap out, yeash, someone needed to learn to just throw things away, no, rusty spark plugs are not a keeper ;P
But, the IHC wrenches are, and the stanley hammer is ok, and a Tuck screwdriver.hmm
The router bits paid for the whole shebang, and the Rigid pipe wrench gets a better home...
Anyone recognize what car the ignition bezzle and door handle belong on?
Oh, yeah, who wanted a rivit set? LOL

I got a box like that not too long ago and "Union" seems to ring a bell. There are a lot of them out there I think since so many come up on google image search. I've seen several and they more often than not have fishing stuff in them.
-
I've always known them as "cantilever" toolboxes. I don't think the cantilever style is isolated to one brand or maker. I believe the wings on the front will tell the maker's story.
Somebody over on JJ has one like it. Search there.

Ahh,ok, how odd....
is a J. C. Higgins box, but, J.C. Higgins was really a Sears brand name, and it was for the sporting goods line..., so...it really is a tacklebox -P
There is one on JJ with an kewl eyeball painted in the circle of the wings..hmmm
Now I am getting really sidetracked....LOL
PS: Have cleaned out the junk, discovered the burst tube of permatex stuck to the bottom.....Grrrr
-
Great score! What kind of flex head ratchet is that?
-
The flex-head ratchet, sadly, was just bait, But I had looked at it before buying the box, it had that magic brand 'tiawan' on it. It also had a twisted drive stud, it is now on it's way back to it's country of origin for remelt....
I have also determined that the toolbox was repainted, red over tan or gold, so now I feel better about rerepainting it :P)
But what to do with the wings? A harley sticker in the middle?
hmm...
PS: Welcome to tooltalk :)

According to someone on Garage Journal, I thought that was a perkins sign painters box. the one on Garage Journal was also brown. I have been looking for one and would be interested on the clarification of the maker.
Thanks,
Kirk

Rusty, is the T handled spark plug wrench made here or over there?
-
Over there, and it was awfull in construction, and I have a good one already, so it also went into the trash...
(The last thing I need is a socket and swivel stuck in the head of an engine ;P)
---
I think the Sign painters box on JJ is the first box in the set of pictures, not the one with wings, at least, that is how I interpreted the text with the pictures....
-
Thanks for the clarification on the box, you are correct it is a higgins tackle box.

wow....$50...maybe I should sell it and buy a new toolbox LOL...
-
I was happy to see that I had gotten a huge discount when I got mine too!
-
I had to go find mine. I guess it's a little different than yours, Rusty. I'd have to get a little more than $50, what with all the custom work that's been done here. Plus, I have 2 wing designs. It looks like it might be smaller than yours though, kind of hard to tell in the pictures. Mine is 14" long and almost 10" tall and about 8 and a half the other way. That dark spot on front is just where I removed a "not family friendly" sticker.

I'm thinking this one may be a JC Higgins knock off though, so maybe not quite so valuable.
-
Mine is 19x9, 10"high.
They cheaped out the latches on yours, you only get one and it dumps out the tackle when it breaks ;P On the other hand, you got wings on the ends , mine is plain jane on the ends...
Looks kinda like yours had under galvanizing too....
-
What does "under galvanizing" mean?
-
Galvanized under the paint...
-
Well, that sounds even fancier. Coulda fooled me though. I'll have to remember to point that out in my sales pitch should it ever come to that :)
-
I just wish I could pinstrupe, some of the boxes on JJ are awesome, and mine would look kewl with a stripe or two, but I can't even freehand a straight line with a pencil :(
(Yeah, I suppose I could buy the tape, but that just wouldn't be the same)
