Title: Proto 8105
Post by: johnsironsanctuary on May 15, 2012, 08:25:43 AM
This is more of a Whensit than a whatsit because it's pretty obvious what it is and no Bob, you can't have it. It's a cute little wrench that I never saw before. It is about 2 1/2" long, 3/8" drive and this one is a 5/16" 12 pt ratchet. You turn it over to tighten or loosen. I looked in the '63 proto cat and could not find it. I hope someone knows some more about it.

I have one- #8107- 3/8 drive , 7/16" ratchet. Never found out what it is really for. I guess it is a sort of ratcheting crow's foot.

It has an October 12, 1954 patent number on it for a ratcheting box wrench.  It is made so that you can attach a breaker bar or extension bar to it.

My 1969 and undated 1970s catalog show the 8105 as a regular offset box wrench.

Here is the link to the patent:

"TAC" was the Tubing Appliance Corporation (T.A.C.). They made tools for refrigeration and hydraulic line service and were acquired by Proto likely after 1954 but in time to be included in the 1956 catalogue:

This 1956 ad announces the big news!

Thanks LG and WV, I guess it was not a big success if it wasn't in the '63 cat.

Sorry to resurrect the dead, but Proto acquired TAC on September 29, 1955
