OK, a small tool club omitting the Baby Coes? Are we kidding?
Generally ditching early wooden handle tools altogether? Not a vintage ratchet in the house?
Its going to be all miniatures and crescent wrenches!
Not that I don't love minis and crescents. I do.
But its really limiting.
How about trying a 6" club right underneath the 4" for a while?
See where more of the action ends up?
I'd like to comment on the pictures in the category as well.
A guy takes the trouble to show me a good picture, I want to thank him and he deserves the thanks.
Lewill posted some cool stuff this morning and I wrote a thank you and had to go back and delete it.

How about a 60" chain wrench club or a oily shop club where only those who have one can see mine? This whole idea seems counter-productive to the notion of sharing/preserving tool information IMHO. I could go buy 10 tools under 4" today - but I'm not just to be in a club and see the tools of others, and I don't expect anybody to be required to have a chain wrench to be able to enjoy seeing mine.

scottg & oily,
I think you both have valid observations. So valid, it has me rethinking the merits of the 4&under club thing. Hmmmm.
Exclusion, in terms of people, ideas, and discourse, is seldom a good thing....

The 4" and under club is a great idea to me. Being private is strange and unprecedented. I'll be waiting until this is changed before posting there.

Bob - As I've publicly stated, I don't have an interest in collecting 4", and under, tools. Given that fact, I wasn't exactly 100% into your thread on establishing a collection "club". It never occurred to me this website would have an exclusive zone where only certain members were provided a view access, or that you were suggesting such. If that thought/suggestion had occurred to me I would have spoken against the idea much sooner. At the point where it was clear to me this was no longer a matter of simply being part of a 4" club, but that information restrictions were being imposed that impacted me, I got involved.
Having thread information on this website available without authentication and authorization (guest or otherwise) has been a "spot" for me since the day I arrived here. I believe there is good and bad in the practice and I have, until now, chosen to keep my opinion to myself.
As an example: The "Thorsen Tools" thread where I had posted with a list of tools needed had to be pulled because "joe public", who is NOT a member of tooltalk, has decided he would view it as "guest" and leverage his understanding of what I needed to hike prices on Ebay. I don't believe for a minute a registered active member of tooltalk would have done that. I strongly believe that issue would not have existed if the website required unique authentication and didn't allow broad guest access.
Why allow free, open, access as guest to all of tooltalk (with no requirement to login to view the information) EXCEPT for this certain little area (pun intended) where the 4" club is? Now if you want to see that, you not only need to be authenticated to the webiste with a login - but you must be authorized by nature of membership in the club.

the club will be open for viewing to all just the posting will be open to collectors to display their collections We never intended it to be another discussion thread. I think if enough menbers approach Noel to dispose of the thread I am sure it will be gone bob w.
