Title: In today's Mail
Post by: Wrenchmensch on June 22, 2012, 03:44:39 PM
I bought this 5.25-inch Walden-Worcester because it had a square (3/4")socket hole.  What was this part of?

Also the stamped patent date reads July, 1909 without giving the day date.  Is this unusual?

Evidently Walden's July 20,1909 patent (928719) Cope doesn't list this patent date but gives usage as square tire nut bolts. Datamp gives some more info on usage.

Walden used that design for their early socket sets

Here's a few more Walden open frame ratchets:
Top left - Both marked B. F. Goodrich (two different size hexes)
Top right - Marked Fisk Tires
Bottom - 9-1/2" and 12.5" ratchet for early Walden pressed steel sockets.
