I ordered and recieved some flat rate envelopes and had an item to ship.
I was told it was $5.50 to mail, but when me lady took the package to the
PO and mailed it, she said the lady weighed it and it cost $8.05 to ship.
Whats up with that? I thought flat rate meant one price.
I'm cornfused.

How does that save a trip to the PO, still have to mail it, or does UPS pick it up or something.

Yep. Put it in your mailbox and raise the mailbox flag. I will often drop mine in the outgoing mail at work.
LOL, you know I never thought of that, we always take our outgoing stuff to the PO.
To many onry kids around here, top of my box is caved in and the door has a bullet hole in it.
And now the PO phone is constantly busy, probably yakking to her kids.
Got it straightened out. A new girl.
She didn't see the flat rate on the envelope and
charged for priority mail.
I was easy on her, we have some good looking mail ladies :-)
When you print a Priority label on line there is an option for free pickup. Mailman will come right to your door. Did you know there are now also legal size flat rate envelops? Also padded regular size.
I'm not sure if it's broad policy or just my mail person, but I've been told on several occasions to just put them in the box as with any other mail, and raise the flag. No need for a requested pickup unless package exceeds box capacity and/or requires some special instructions for pickup.
I'm very fond of those padded flat-rate envelopes. If you figure a good quality padded envelope otherwise cost you $1 then you're shipping 8-1/2 x 11 flat-rate at about $4.

Or if your leery of leaving the package in the mailbox till the mailman get there.
The fellow that steals a box out of my mailbox will be found 30 yards down the street on the ground gasping for breath after lugging 80 pounds of rusty steel in the hot sun......
