Someone from Japan hacked into my computer now I'm getting emails from people wondering if I'm sending them things, so hopefully no one here gets anything from me other than a couple pms I have sent out.

That does suck! Also saw where yahoo had over 450k passwords exposed earlier this week.
US has good relations with Japan re: forensics and prosecution of cyber crimes. It is the other extreme with China, Russia, and North Korea where there is no cooperation - and this is a well known fact among those wanting to do bad things.
Got a email from FB and they showed the location on a map of japan.
Are people that bored that they have to screw with someone elses stuff.

Yes. Or something like that. Where did computer viruses come from? And now we have
all those seals on over-the-counter medicines (and anything else people can ingest -- this
because of idiots putting other things, including poisons, into them while they were sitting
on the shelves in stores.

The first one? In the 70's, "Creeper" I believe it was named....but there was no intention to cause harm, rather demonstrate

Some folks would like to date it back further to the late '40s, but I would disagree as it was only in theory and lecture; not practice.
Having said that - I've always been of the opinion that technology is "released" to us when it is no longer vital to have it safeguarded in certain hands. I'll leave it at that to avoid anything political. So who REALLY knows the real timeline of technology. I believe we only truly understand it in the context of educational, commercial, and social use.

Scarlett Pimpernel came before Creeper. Same line, "I'm the Scarlett Pimpernel; catch me if you can." Controlled environment, etc. at Stanford.
But the point is, malicious people exist, people who dreamed up and spread computer viruses, Trojans, etc.

Creeper's claim to fame is that it was the first to walk the newfangled internet, arpanet at the time...
The concept is decades older than that....

From a research associate who, along with his father, worked at Stanford. Scarlett Pimpernel happened in his father's time there in the earliest computer days.
