I bought these at a garage sale for 50 cents a piece.
You can see the one that I have worked on, I took it
down to bare metal and repainted it. Would you paint
the escussions the same color as the base or another
color so they stand out? The star is a natural brass color
and had been painted, may leave them bare. And where
can I get another star, missing one?

try getting the missing star at a craft store. might have to file or shape it some to match.

OK, I know there's a Michaels about 35 miles from me so I'll try there.
The escussions are a little scratched up not to paint from scaping. Tried to get it out with steel wool with no luck. Might try a silver metallic paint. Was just wondering cause the women said paint it the same color as the base, it wouldn't have any charactor the same color.

I always try not to scrape or wire brush this type of stuff. Might be better if you boil these parts in water the paint will peel off easily. Works well on brass hinges, knobs.

OK thanks, never heard of boiling them I'll try that on the 2nd one.
Lookin good. Were are you gonna use them?
I think you might be able to get a star at any arts an craft store, if not something close enough to it that you could modify it to make it match.

I havn't the slightest clue, only bought em cause they were cheap and I like doing little projects to keep me busy.
Zip Seal and Seal and Peel are two of the many brands of removeable window caulk at the hardware box. A gob of that silicone makes a very nice mold of your star from an existing one. A two tube kit of epoxy is probably enough to cast one. Stick a machine screw in it for a stud.Use a little piece of cardboard to support the screw while the epoxy hardens. Of course then you have to paint them all, but it will match.
