Title: Need old Clinton cast iron gas engine information.

While out looking for old tools at garage sales today, I found a old cast iron one cylinder gas engine for sale. It has a decal that is marked Trojan Horse. It also have several other decals marked Clinton. It's a pretty big and heavy engine. I am guessing about 4 to 5 horsepower. Model number is 498-0301-137. It is a side shaft engine. I have 2 other Clinton engines, but this one is larger than the others. It has a oil bath air cleaner on it and the fuel tank looks like it may hold a half gallon of fuel. Any idea of it's age and horsepower rating. I can send pictures in a return email if you email me at evildr235@webtv.net. I have no way as of yet to post pictures on this site. I have lots of info on Briggs & Stratton engines, but very little on Clinton engines. I like thease little engines.

You may try the old engine/tractor site, (www.smokstak.com),  there is a small engine page  if you look hard.  luck.

I found information yesterday that the engine came off a Troy Bilt Trojan Horse rototiller. Built in the mid 1960s with a cast iron block and tapered roller bearings on the crankshaft. 4-1/2 horsepower at 3400 rpm. I need to find a use for it now. Maybe another homemade generator. Maybe a mini bike or go cart project. Gas engine powered air compressor. Thank you all for your replies,
