Title: Who would have used this type of Measuring Wheel ?
Post by: Mel Larsen on September 01, 2012, 03:49:33 PM
I picked this Measuring wheel at a yard sale this morning,  It measures in inches and has a pointer that is movable to any point around the wheel.  Numbers in inches from 0 to 24 by 1/8 increments.  Made of cast iron,  Has no name on it.
Who or what trade would have used it?

It's a traveler used by Blacksmiths/wheelwrights to measure the circumference of a wheel.

Thanks Bus, I done a little search on Ebay for wheel measure tool, and that is exactly what it is.  I had never seen one before.  There are several on Ebay ranging from $39 to $99 so I guess my $20 was not such a bad deal after all.  Now I have to find a place on my tool wall for it to hang.

That's an excellent traveler.  At only $20, you made quite a good buy.
