Title: 2 dollar Craftsman tool box
Post by: jimwrench on September 11, 2012, 03:07:49 PM
Bought this Crafty box at auction to get the 2 Plomb pebble wrenchs. Got more than I bargained for(I call it collateral gain). Guy bought good tools . Got a bunch of Apex sockets, several craftsman sockets, plus McCormick,John deere,proto,Snap-on,Upland Forge,Vanadium tool co,and Stubai plus some junk wrenchs that helped camouflage the good stuff. That was $2 american money.

It is a nice sized box with C-man logo with crown. Will try to clean it up and store some wrenchs in it.

Jim,

I have the same JD-52 wrench.  It's a cool wrench and heavy to boot.  I wonder what JD tractor(s) it was used on and what use it was intended for.  Perhaps someone that knows the history of this wrench will chime in and enlighten us.

Oh, you done good on your two dollar purchase; lots of good stuff.

I've almost completed a set of the Vanadium tool Co. combo wrenches. Love that style of wrench!!

You cleaned up on that box of tools!!!

I suppose you have the 1/2 combo Vanadium wrench but if not pm me and its yours.
Those JD 50-JD53 wrenchs are very common and worth about $3 on a good day. Dill doesn't give usage in his JD listing so I can't help with specific usage. I'm sure many JD collectors can give specific usage.
I like the feel of the Upland Forge wrenchs. Nice and thin for tight spots. Also like the Stubai wrench. Looks like company is over 100 years old and I don't remember seeing one before.
Nice old c-man box and I figure $ 100 labor will turn a $2 box into a $5 box. Something wrong with this picture?
I've already started sanding on it. Slow learner ?
