The auction in Independence had a fair selection of tools, but the C-man stuff brought ore than I was willing to spend and some of the other goodies were snapped up. I did score a micro pair of Powr-Kraft channellocks that was stuffed in a Craftsman ignition wrench pouch. My patience waiting for the auctioneer to go through the outside stuff, the furniture, and all the crap on 4 rows of 60 foot long table runs. The tools and the Kennedy boxes were the last to go. May have worked in my favor running off the impatient ones.
There was only one other serious bidder(as in when the bidding got over $50), but these two boxes are about as close to immaculate for their age as you're going to find. Yes, I'll clean them up and drool over them for a few days, but ultimately I will be selling them. You folks can have first shot at them before they on on sleazebay. Nothing like this pair currently listed, so I have no idea of their value. The big flaw is one drawer had some caustic something or another spill in it and ate off the red crackle paint in a small area. The corrosion on the top lid hinges should steel wool off nicely. Someone REALLY took care of these boxes Looked like from the dust, that it primarily was in a woodworking shop, but it did have some stray wheel weights in it. They had the key for the bottom, but not the top, so I'll have to get that taken care of.
Short of coming home with a Blackhawk Torpedo box or a Plomb Top and bottom, this is pretty much the Holy Grail for the year. The incandescent lighting used for these pictures is making the set look more orange than red, but trust me, these are fire engine red with that really cool crackle finish. If anyone knows the age range of these boxes, I'd be all ears. So far, can't find a model number or date stamp like the older Craftsmans have.
Getting out the mop bucket to clean up the saliva I've left on the floor....

Few more shots of the top and bottom, including its "wart".

While I was out at the auction, my wife scammed this really nice Plomb 1125 DBE for a dollar and an estate sale. Above it is the P-K channel locks. I'll post some more photos of the stuff in the wire baskets i na day or so...got all 5 of these storage baskets for $2 from a gal that was gong to throw them in the dupster after she got her brick-a-brack out of them. They are of the same gauge steel as shopping carts are made out of. Yeah, I'll find something to store in them.....lol

I have that same Kennedy top box out in my shop. I plan to put my collectable tools in it. I believe i paid $75.00 about a year ago. i really like Kennedy tool boxes. I have 4 machinists tool chests, 2 hindge roof boxes, the top box like yours and a carpenters tool box.

Your Kennedy "roll-away" looks to have been made in the 1960's.

I wasn't even aware Kennedy made mechanic's boxes...
