Why do these little fellows appear so easy to identify, until I buy them. Looks like a typical implement wrench with a nice legible number but the three wrenchs marked (13) in Rathbone do not match this guy. Anybody recognize him?

I saw one of the guys in the Missouri Valley Wrench Collectors going thru a book of implement tools. Someone had taken the time to catalog hundreds of different makers tools, most of which just have a number. Wouldn't mind having one of those books. Looks like a corn planter or binder type wrench.

I found it. It was item 856-2 in Virgil Saaks auction. Looks identical except number was 44. Same length, same openings, same hammer poll. Looks like someone may have used common pattern with different numbers, but why would you do this ? At least its marked orphan in Saak auction so I have its name right. Search continues.
