I'd say this alligator has been modified to useless- What do you think?

mAYBE HE WAS A TIN KNOCKER BOB W.

See no sign of modification in photo. Would guess tooth straightener for farm implement but don't see need for teeth. Maybe a factory modification of standard alligator for tooth straightening ? No scientific basis for this guess.

I don't see any sign of modification either. But what you would do with this alligator eludes me.

With PRR stamped on it, I think Bob came close, but not a tin knocker, but a car knocker. I bought a my farmhouse from Chicago Northwestern carknocker. His most useful tool was a 20 lb hammer. I didn't matter what was wrong with a boxcar, Henry could fix it with his hammer. This tool looks like what he would have used if he needed a little finesse.

We use those in automotive for straightening steel, frame rails, quarter panel lips, you get the idea

Papaw, It has been very well done, but it wouldn't be hard for a "blacksmith" to open that back out, refile the teeth and re-harden and temper (if you wanted it as a user!) It would then be as good as new and only we would know! (I'd volunteer if I wasn't so far away!)
