Title: Some recents finds
Post by: bonneyman on February 27, 2013, 03:43:06 PM
Found a few goodies over the past week. Been looking for a nice Yankee push driver - paid $2 for this one. Needs some serious gut cleaning, but, I think it will work great. Any ideas what era this 130A is with that plum handle?

It was made sometime after 1946, since that is when Stanley acquired North Bros.

Just from what I have seen, the dark red was the norm for some time.   Late 50s, started seeing the plum colored ones.  I am sure there is a good Yankee history somewhere online.

I cleaned up the mechanism, and  put some chrome polish on the exposed metal. The puppy looks and works great!

I've tried a couple of times with varying amounts of success. Guess my home-made machining skills just aren't good enough. So, I've called Lee Valley and have two bit adapters coming that are made specifically for Yankee drivers.

I took a cheap 1/4 inch hex screwdriver type, cut off the steel shaft, and cut the "notch in the part, and now have a 1/4" speed driver!!! Works A+.
