Picked this one up as part of a tool box full of stuff at the auction in CR. I've not seen this style of ratchet mechanism and although it's pretty obvious some sort of spring is missing, I think it's spozed to function with just the one pawl. If anyone knows what sort of spring is supposed to go in there, I'd love to see a picture of it. The ratchet was non-functional when I opened it up, but saw no signs of a spring either. Funny that only the torx screw holds everything together.
TIA

DWM,
All that is missing is a heart shaped spring. Check out bonneymans thread "Inside a ratchet: How it works", stickied above; you'll find one like yours and you can see what the spring looks like.
-
If it's the one I'm thinking of, the S-K Tuff 1 and FACOM fine tooth ratchets use that spring.
-
Thanks guys, any idea where one of those springs could be acquired?? This rat is in too good of condition to scrap.

Had to join after finding this cool site AND knowing exactly where to find your spring (if it's the heart shaped one). Look here http://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/index.php?cPath=35_253_321&sort=2a&page=2 The owner (Steve) is a very down to earth guy and a joy to deal with. I have bought many a tool from him with ZERO issues. Mainly Facom & Toptul when on sale. Active on GarageJournal but also nice to be here too.

What is the drive size and what does the top cap on the l. side of the picture look like?
-
Thanks Autobon7!!. I have ordered the kit as it was considerably less expensive than other vendors out there. An orphaned Rat will again!!!
Dan, I'll take a photo of it all put together when the spring comes in.

...although the $10 to ship an item the size of an ice cube seemed a little excessive.....

How much did KD charge for the kit? I'm surprised they just didn't send one for free.
-
Eddie, I didn't pursue that route, maybe I should have inquired. Since there was no spring to begin with, I might've been standing on weak ground begging for freebies!! The other vendors were wanting $15-$20 for the rebuild kit and if they had free shipping, it would have been a wash financially. Guess it will be a keeper as it wont be worth much more than $15 at a sale.

You wouldn't be begging. All you do is call them and say you need a ratchet kit. Either they tell you the nearest dealer, or sell one directly to you, or send you one for free. From what I've read, it'd usually free.

You are welcome.....glad to hear that your ratchet will be put back into the work force. Take a pic when done.
