Title: Plomb US Navy wrench?
Post by: bgarrett on May 10, 2013, 09:36:54 PM
I got an interesting combination wrench today.  Alloy Artifacts has nothing on it. Do you know anything about it?
Its color and rectangular shank look like the  1214  here--   http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/plomb-gallery-p2.html
The only marks on mine is 13/16*NAF*1147-13*USN*  PLOMB with the O being the inverted triangle and having the plumb bobs before and after the word PLOMB

I am using the * symbol to indicate a dot midway up between the numbers and letters.

I think it is unusual  because it does not have 'USA' or 'Los Angeles"

I have a 1 7/16 slugging wrench that my son gave me which also does not mention Los Angeles but does say made in USA.
Don't have any further info on navy designations. My wrench is stamped (USN 223 7/8 USS 1 7/16 Plomb made in USA NR)

We used those slugging wrenchs to take large plugs out of the bottom of the mud drums on the boilers.
That was one tough job and never looked forward to doing it.
