I am looking to buy a small Honda motorcycle sometime in the future. I like the Honda 90s and S90s in the mid 1960s. I see lots of the Honda 90 trail bikes for sale on C.L. I see the early ones had dual rear sprockets and the later ones had a high / low range transmission. Were they good bikes ? I see lots of low mile ones for sale. I see later ones grew to 110 CCs. I also see the later bikes had better / normal front forks.

Trail 90s were very good bikes for the intended purpose. The 110s were not a big change or improvement. The engines were a simple single cylinder four-stroke design that proved itself over many years. Really easy to work on, and reliable.

I personally prefer the s90, plus you already have a tool kit for it i believe and that is the most important part.

I had 2 friends that had Honda 90s and another that had a Honda S90. One of the Honda 90s was a new 1964 model that I learned to ride on. My friend Jimmy installed a drive gear for the chain that had one extra tooth on it giving him a couple more mph. It was still around about 10 years ago when Jimmy died from a stroke at 55 years of age. My other friend laddie bought a new 1965 Honda 90. It was totaled when another friend Paul was riding it and hit a deer. My other friend Galen had a Honda S90 that was sold when
he bought a Harley with a flathead 80 engine that he later traded as the down payment on his house. He now has 2 shovelhead Harleys. I was thinking about getting 2 Honda 90 trail bikes because there is so many bikes and parts still around. The wife and I go out in the deep woods and do alot of shooting and the trail bike would be perfect. I like the idea of having two bikes the same. If one bike dies it becomes a parts bike. And yes I do have the tool kit from the 1965 Honda 90 still.

Does Honda dealers still supply parts for older bikes like the ones I have been talking about ?

a lot of parts are still around , they made these bikes for ever. People are even replacing the motors with lifan Chinese motors. I really only do Honda 305's so i can not tell you exactly what is out there for parts. But I can still order a ton of parts for my bike and it only had a 6 year production run. here is a good link

We are also looking at Honda Rebel 250s. There seems to be alot of those around still and in good shape. We use to have a Kawaski KZ250. Me and my wife liked it for puttering around town. Honda has been making them for quite awhile, so they can't be too bad.

I test road the rebel 250 , I have lost some weight now, i was at 235lb and as long as you do not mind max speed between 60-70 mph its fine. But a ride on hwy 26 to mt.hood would be a hard ride for me. They pretty much have not changed and If you are tall the seat height is low and it may bother you. I also do not believe you could ride two up either except in town. You can always test ride one at the dealer and see what you think.They are also nice and light so easy to manhandle the bike a little bit and great as a reintroduction to riding or for a first time rider. But, you may want a new bike in a year if you feel it is underpowered. If you still want trail riding you might look at some dual sports.
They are pretty bullet proof as long as you keep oil in them. It is the first thing I check on a used bike and I feel it always tells you how people perform their maintenance.

There are certain things that , once you do them in life, you do not want to to repeat them. One of those things is pushing a bike five miles through the woods to get it home because it has thrown a gear out the side of the transmission, because it had no oil in it. Ask my brother ......he is older, and wiser now...
Oil is good....
(Fuel is also good, but that is another story...)
