Title: Saved from the dump
Post by: Nolatoolguy on August 17, 2013, 10:46:09 PM
I haven't been hitting sales these past weeks as school is expensive. Luckily my tool fix has been solved for the week.

If some of you remember a while back I helped a elderly lady clean her husbands garage. All of his woodworking tools were auctioned off. She since passed and the family gave me these before they were taken to the dump.

I also got a ton of wood and hardware. The real jackpot is all the hardware, I have to back tommorow with my truck to pick it all up.

Very happy for you, sir!

It's a great day when one saves vintage chrome form the scrap heap.

That Crafty Toolbox is a treasure. Must be from right after WWII when they stopped using the underlined logo. I thought that all of that style had red backgrounds.

Thanks guys, the hardware and wood was alot for me. Most of it was nice hardwood boards, mostly walnut and cherry, and then there was a stack vermeer three feet high. The family previously threw all the hardware in buckets an bins. I had a truckbed full of containers of screws, nails, hinges, etc. then a few buckets on the trailer. Most was new in the package. I have no real use for 25lbs of 3/4 inch brass wood screws. You can tell he liked to buy his hardware in bulk, lol. I took multiple loads to a guy I know who does custom woodworking. He made a deal with the family and I got a portion as well along with I kept just tiny bit for myself.

Here is some wood, most of the bottom stuff is destin for a bonfire later this week.

I'm liking those Herbrand DBEs...

+1, very nice set of vintage Herbrand long and short pattern DBE's; excellent wrenches.

The Crafty chest is a very worthy piece too and looks to be in pretty good condition with a nice patina... in other words, a KEEPER.  The Crafty logo on the front cover was used between about 1945-1959.

Nice wood!
I lost 2/3rds of all my premium wood in fire #2

Its hard to tell how much value you have in the hardware, screws,& nails.
Fasteners have really gotten expensive over the past few years, better hang on to them.

Fasteners nothing, if those are original vintage screen etched brass hinges and roses, they are worth INSANE money....

I bet you can turn those for a profit, Neil.
