Title: Dunlap (Midget)
Post by: HeelSpur on August 27, 2013, 06:47:18 PM
Got this screwdriver and finally decided to do a search on it. Dunlap is hard to make out but its there, but no signs of where it says Midget. Got the Midget info from here http://www.thegaragegazette.com/index.php?topic=15718.0

So if this is suppose to be made for Millers Falls then why does it have craftsman (dunlap) stamped on it?
It would seem to me that they would want their name on it if MF were selling it.

Not made for Millers Falls, made BY Millers Falls, for sears.

Sears wanted you to think they made everything...but of course, they made close to nothing....

Hardly any of them made anything. Sears Wards Shapleigh, Belknap, etc etc.
Hardly any of them make anything today as well. Woodcraft "house brand" is not made in house. Hardware chains are seldom ever involved in manufacturing.

Vaughan and Bushnell were one of the few. Vaughan continues today mostly in hammers.

And it still goes on. If you pick up the phone right now and call Ford, and order 20,000 cars, they will be absolutely delighted to paint them all purple and put Squidly Flurthwaffer on the side, instead of Taurus.

Ha!

It's all in the name.

Today I'm driving down Rt 3, goes through the woods from, essentially, noplace to noplace further south.

Half way there I pass a small place by side of the road, with a sign.

"Diner in the Middle of Nowhere"

Yup....sure is...
