Title: 6" Crescent
Post by: HeelSpur on September 24, 2013, 06:57:06 AM
Here is a pic of my bud's crescent wrench. It looks brand new and is odd looking compared to other crescents. I saw one on ebay that was similar and has the deep rib.
The jaw is very loose on this and rattles pretty bad when shaking it.
The side that says Crescent has B83 next to the hole and the other side has JJD.
Inside the hole you can see the casting seem but the outside perimeter has been sanded down.
Does anyone know if there was cheap imitations made or is this a Chinese Crescent wrench?

The Centennial Cresent wrench is very similar but has one side marked: The Original since 1907 .

Since it is clearly marked U.S.A. it ought to be made here, not China.   I 'spect it is just the new model in current production.  If you look for the screw that holds the adjuster in place, I bet you find it is a pin rather than the usual screw -- just like the Centennial Crescent.

I guess its a pin, its not removeable, has 3 notches that looks like they were pressed in so the pin wouldn't fall out. Sure is cheap looking.

A while back, I posted about an Ebay auction that was taken down because I used the word Crescent in an ad for a Dimalloy wrench.  The company that owns the Crescent Brand is Apex Tool Group. From what I could see on the Apex website, they own virtually every brand of tools that is not Stanley or Craftsman. It is a business monopoly that is run by accountants and lawyers. What else would you expect from this group but cheap crud. Keep buying used tools so you don't support them!
