Title: The Neighbor Finally let go of his Firestones
Post by: dimwittedmoose51 on September 28, 2013, 03:57:59 PM
A neighbor is moving to a smaller living establishment and has been teasing me with maybe selling his partial set of Firestone ratchets and drive tools.  Prior to this, all the Firestone stuff I had comprised of one or two loose sockets and a small hatchet.  It think he finally sold them for about $15, but there was some other stuff involved in the deal.  I've never really known much o the history of Firestone tools or how collectible they are, but you don't see them around ery often and I didn't have much,so....... The only real flaw i the set is that the 3/8" rat is missing the directional selector lever, but I may get creative before too long.
The 1/4" ratchet is about as free=wheeling as my SK and MAC rats are, but I doubt it will see much action.

I worked at a garage once that used to have  a Firestone store attached.  They sold hunting/fishing/camping gear, some hardware and tools.  There were some dusty displays still around, but couldn't touch them.   I am thinking it was sort of attached to their tire sales, from say, the 30s thru the 50s.   If I' am wrong, somebody say so.  Friends dad had a set of Firestone 3/8 drive, seemed like good stuff.   I have a Firestone bicycle from the late 40s too.

The switch levers and pear heads certainly would support your thinking there skipskip.  I guess when time becomes available, I cold take them both apart and photograph the results.  I'm pretty sure I've got a 1/4" pebble plomb in the collector's box somewhere and a couple of 3/8".

Film at 11....

I have a Firestone DOE.
It's the only other Firestone that I have ever seen besides these.

Skip is quite right; re-badged Plomb indeed...

And that is where you will get your donor selector switch too.

That is a cool collection!
