Title: Anybody have one of these?

This is 7 1/2" long and the only marking on it is "Made in USA" and "Pat. Pend."  Anyone know what it is called and what it is for?

Winding wire or spring? Only a guess.

It's used for tightening the band clamps on CV joints on modern cars. Got one, works right nice.
