Title: Unknown pointed something
Post by: Tool Pants on November 10, 2013, 02:19:52 PM
Saw it at the flea market with a bunch of unrelated stuff.  Doubt if it is automotive.  The tag said old tool $12.

So what's-it?

a bulb planter?  it's with gardening tool, some go a few inches below surface, some go 4-6, so the spin handle could be a depth setting.

It is in fact part of a shoe expander.   The woodin blocks are missing which swivel on the two pins and the point spreads them apart.

This one turns up regulary in Europe as well - I guess the wooden parts rot away, or get burnt as fire wood and then the screw get put on one side as 'useful'..... Modern ones still available, but usually with plastic formers. For those who do not know this tool, the formers (wood or plastic) had holes in them that took small mushroom like inserts, to allow the shoe to be stretched away from a bunion or painful toe....
