Title: 'Patent Applied For".....and that's as far as it went??
Post by: dimwittedmoose51 on November 11, 2013, 08:58:37 PM
I can't find anything out about these two tools on the internet.   The Gold Nugget GN35 has slightly smaller openings that the GN45, but why the one end has the hook on the inside and the other end has the hook on the outside defies any logic I can throw at this tool.  "AWCo" tools brings nothing on the internet either.  Wonder how many were originally in the set?  Oh, and what were they supposed to do?   I don't have a clue.  Help me please, so I can sleep tonight....or tomorrow!!!

Thanks folks,

DM&FS

Tie rod adjusting tool. There are usually two different size sleeves. I used one , since sold.
Mine was from the '70's
You use one hook for pulling, one for pushing , depends on what's in the way.

One wonders if the patent was denied due to it not being different enough from an existing design.  Thanks Lost mind!!

Thinking I like the Snap On version better.  These were in the same bucket as the "Nuggets".  Go figure.......

Your top one is indeed a tie rod tool, the bottom one is for setting caster and camber on Ford and Chrysler products 70's to 80's era. The pin goes in a hole in the frame and the hook goes around the control arm
link to move it in or out. Tough job with out the tool.
I have a Snap On , not much market for it.

AWCO was the mark of Austin Western Co, makers of Steam rollers and other construction equipt. (also their cable address) They were still about into the 60's

dunno if it would make sense for them to make a tool for tie rods, but perhaps a tool for something else similarly adjusted?

The gold nugget thing gets me nothing tho....

I'd guess all four tools are variants used for the same (or a similar) job
