Neil, I say she might be a "keeper" if she has hung around you as long as I think she has. Women always think they want to change a man, but really, deep down inside, they don't. You are more likely to effect some change in her outlook when she sees that tools not only help make your living, but are an essential part of you yourself. Some of us here on Tool Talk have watched you grow up and think you will be a great catch for someone some day.

Thanks papaw

Yeh weve been friends for a while, some have saw a couple mentions on Facebook. We keep little on facebook just cause we dont want everyone knowing every single move we make. We have been through a lot together through the years. A year ago we both realized that sometimes a serious relationship at that point may not be the best. That was a year ago...things changed a lot since with gradation and stuff. With all the changes in life we are seeing a relationship sooner then later.

She gives me a hard time about my tools I give her a hard time about her collection of phone cases, I swear they change daily. We wouldn't want it any other way thoe.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

My wife puts up with my affliction and has even scored some fine tool grabs for nifty prices.  And since she  was born in Hinsdale Ill., she's all over any Hinsdale tools that show up.  I told her that when I started storing tools in the upstairs bathroom, I'd voluntarily check into a 12 step hoarder's program......lol

Neil, I'll just tell you like my wife told me.

"If you are spending money on tools and time in the shop, at least I don't have to worry about you spending money on booze and chasing other women at bars!"

Although, you are young, and at that age, most men don't know what they want out of a woman as far as how serious a relationship they want. Don't rush it, trust your judgement, and all will be well!

You are already ahead of the game, you have maturity most 18 year olds won't see for many years.

Smart move keeping your relationship off of FB and between you and her.

Good luck, buddy!!

First,,,does she have any ratchets????

Second, Sounds to me she is forcing you to make a choice,,,. Her or tools?

You are a really young guy, and this is your first real relationship.

And she has just hen-pecked you.

That is all I have to say.

Any relationship is a 2 way street, give & take, negotiate differences, look for the positives, appreciate any efforts made to the relationship.  Sometimes we just need to see where they are coming from & they may need help seeing things from your point of view... slowly show her the benefits of your hobby & passions..  She may see it is a good thing... (Don't force or rush her to your view, helps when she can decide it is something that makes you happy.) as long as you make her happy.. After all, that's what makes a relationship work, when both sides works to make the other Happy...

Tell her "Honey it is you, and these tools, that make my world go around."

OK, now I'm lost. Is the "sickness" the tools or the woman? ROFL

Tools are therapy for me. And the misses understands that. I could blow my spare money at the race track, on football, or fancy clothes...but I prefer chrome-plated steel. It's safer and cheaper (most of the time!)

It's like this Nola, I could give you booksof advice on women, and books of advice on tools.  50% of the advice on women would be wrong, and 80% of the advice on tools would be right.  One thing I can absolutely guarantee you when it comes to women though.  There are 2 schools of thought on arguing with a woman, and neither of them works.

Fellow name of Wayne Dyer wrote a real good book on relationships back before you were a glimmer in your parent's eyes.  Still in print and still damn worth reading today.

All these guys are right.  Follow your heart and get the barn, too.  It's all in the way you present it.  When you start to get stuck, these guys here will give you the verbal tools to make it work.

I gotta say Aunt Phils initial response made me laugh out loud.

For me, I married a girl whose father is worse than anyone for tools. She was prepared for this from an early age.

Best of luck!
