Ford weights
« on: April 15, 2014, 02:18:00 PM »
I have never heard of weights made by or branded with ford. The seller sais there for weighing parts.  I was wondering if he was correct or if not what there used for?

The add can be seen below. I am not affiliated with them and I am not interested in actually buying them.

I almost bought a chain fall that was marked FORD,

It turned out to be made by Edward Ford, no relation to Henry

I dont see any ford script or motor co on these weights

At first I thought that it was not likely that Ford would run such a short batch of weights.  Then I noticed that the weights were adjusted by drilling and /or adding lead. This is as opposed to milling or having a more refined method of casting.

So now I think that they were probably made in a short casting run. Then they were adjusted and cleaned up.

I think it is possible, even likely that they were made by Ford.  Too bad there isn't better provenance.

There was an English scale maker named Ford - cast iron weights bearing his name are known to exist...
