Masonry tool?
« on: August 11, 2014, 07:54:51 PM »
I picked this up at a garage sale because it was a tool, and I had no idea what it's for.  The text on is reads:  TARGET Masonry saws-blades  Kansas City 10, Missouri.  It may be a promotional item.  Could it be for setting angles on a masonry saw for cutting block or brick?  All comments appreciated.  I have $2.00 tied up in this.

It's a guide that hooks to the table on a masonry saw, for cutting angles on brick or block. How big is it? It looks kinda small for a commercial saw.

It's 6 3/4" long, sorry I should have put a visual marker in the picture.  What is the point of the thumbscrew?

Thanks!

Looks to me as if it would clamp onto the back of a hand saw type of stone saw, to enable the user to gauge the angle by eye...

My TCT tipped saw has a blade about 1/8" (3mm) thick - much thicker than the equivalent wood hand saw...

If Pritch is right, and I think he is, then the thumbscrew tightens against the lip on the front of a masonry saw table.  Those saws have either sliding tables or the saw cuts through like a sliding chop saw.  The lip on that table is where the guide attaches. The set screw keeps the guide in place.

Here's a slightly different one in place, clamped to the front of the saw table....

Nothing like a good visual to get the point across.   It makes real good sense now.  Thanks again!
