Unidentified Tool

 I found this tool in a box of my late wife's belongings, and cannot figure out what its purpose is. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think we just saw one of these not too long ago...

I think the consensus was it was for measuring off reams of paper...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

That is what it was. Mine was missing the movable bar thingy. Yours must be the deluxe model with that nice wood handle.

Yep, it is for redundant measuring of paper, I worked in a small print shop bindery for 5 years, used one similar daily.

Count the amount of sheets you need, slide the tool to fit the thickness, then use the tool to divide stacks of paper into equal volumes.
