Can anyone help me out reading this makers mark? 2 letters in cursive on top line, possibly "S.W.", can't make out too much on bottom line, possibly "Weiss...." but there's something before it & after it.

Older things would be "J. Wiss & Sons"

Not certain I see that tho, and the script is odd (F W ?) hmm

There were other companies, ie R. Heinisch & Sons,W. H. Compton (Shear Co),J. L. Perkins...

On the other hand, the handle style is very Wiss like....

Edit: Thinking the script is J W (J. Wiss) , I see an adv using a script W....

Fun book: http://books.google.com/books?id=omzraDnrFBIC&pg=PA12

But do you agree with me that the writing under the 2 script letters is Weiss.... Also was that link supposed to have info on a Wiss logo?  I didn't see it

The more I look, the more I think it isn't

Wiss has no 'e'

And the stagger on the second letter makes me think 2 initials and a name

like F. W. EIS..??

(The book just has a noce collection of scissor makers I stumbles across while looking, the script W was elsewhere (pop-sci? I forget, it wasn't a complete logo match anyhow)

Jury is nowhere close to back yet...
