Tool or Part of Rigging?
« on: July 04, 2015, 07:12:39 AM »
Hi - I just joined today.  Can't wait to learn more about my junk (I mean collection).  I've got this item that I have shown many people and nobody seems to have a clue what it was used for.  My guess is some kind of rigging - perhaps marine.  Appears to be galvanized.  My dad picked it up in a field in Louisiana when he was there doing cleanup work from Katrina.

Looks quite a bit like the hooks on my fence stretcher.

Welcome to Tool Talk. Maybe a tool for picking up hay using a rope to store in a barn ?

I'd be interested in knowing, as well. I have two of them. I've ruled out "nutcracker".

It is used for rigging and lifting.
With rope tie-offs like that I would agree with marine use.

Could it be used by a hunter for lifting a deer or hog carcass for butchering?

Could, I suppose, but it wouldn't spread the carcass.

I would saw that you have one of what would be a pair. The pair would be used to grab a bundle or bail of stuff.
