I picked up this valve spring compressor last year because it looked like Vlchek's design. At the time I assumed it was a shop made copy, it is very crude, has an obvious C-clamp handle, and rather primitave forgings. (The Vlchek version is below it)

Surprise, when I was cleaning it up, i found "Forged Steel" faintly stamped along one fork.
Weird...no one would put that on a shop made tool....

So I cleaned a bit more....

How bizzare....It was made by Goodell Pratt, Greenfield,Mass....
Marked Pat Pending, which is interesting, as i think the Vlchek design is patented, they both use the same principal..

As an aside, don't ever try to use one of these horrible things,
they are notorious for launching either the spring or the tool across the room...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Papaw

I have a couple similat to those, and I once tried one out on a small engine, to the same disastrous results.
