Ok I could see that, I remember patching tubes with that black goop and the patch, seems like fire had something to do with it, wow the crap you forget in time. lol

If you are asking me on the drive shaft, it didn't come off of one just laying there in a pile of junk.

Funny come to think of it. I've been working as a machinist for over 30 years, and never used one. (our driven centers are a lot less cumbersome, but cost a lot more money)

Good one guys!! that must of been used on a decent size lathe, the thing is like 12 inches long and weighs about 10 lbs, shoulda figured; there are hundreds of carbide tipped lathe bits here, the smallest being .75" x4" and up to 1.5" x 7". sold a lot on ebay already and lots more to go.

There were so many bits here I built a 4 bar drag for dragging the drive way and used about 80 .75" x 6" for the teeth.:-) works great.

Butane lighter, wood ruler, probably brass edged (hurt like hell) Fair sied throwin rock, Cast dogging clamp for a manhole cover.  I think the rock might be very hard.

I am a geologist.  It is hard to say for sure without examining it, but the rock looks like a silty sandstone.

What's a Geologist know about rocks unless they're core bored or sliced after complete cleaning so he doesn't get his lab coat dirty?

I'm leaning toward the igneous group.

I am not a geologist but do agree that this sedimentary rock is composed of sand-sized grains of mineral, rock or organic material.
It also contains a cementing material that binds the sand grains together and may contain a matrix of silt- or clay-size particles that occupy the spaces between the sand grains.

Since this particular rock is lighter than air, the object in question is the metallurgic contraption hold the rock down from floating away.

The lighter and ruler are there for just good measure.

I am going to guess #3 is to mount a old gas lamp from the ceiling, if the outer screw holes are 16" oc that should be it.
