Most of the work done this winter when things were slow at work.  This is a weathervane - an all metal semi scale model of a Boeing Stearman Kaydet PT17.  The wingspan is 27 1/2".

Here it is prior to paint...

And it's up!

Now all I need is some wind to test it.  Thankfully the wind was still when I raised it earlier today.  I expect it to work well because it only needs the lightest touch to spin.  It is mounted at the balance point on a 1/4" polished point.  The propeller should spin also.

Very impressive! Was it a kit of some sort, or did you have to fabricate everything from scratch?
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

Northwoods

Sweet!
Made from scratch, I'll wager!
The ORIGINAL Northwoods.

amecks,  now you will have to rig up some flying plane sounds that will activate whenever someone walks by the sign.

that's a cool plane, nice work.

Batz

That is really nice, thanks for sharing. I would love one of those.

Yes, made from scratch, using drawings from old model kits that are easily available on the net.  The cowl is a propane bottle, wings are shelving thrown out at work, struts are brake tubing.  Mostly brazing and pop rivets holding it together.

Ha! "flying plane sounds that will activate whenever someone walks by the sign".

Well done, great looking project.

So the secret of finishing a winter project is to work on them in July?  hahaha
Nice job on the plane!    boy if you scale that up a little make a pedal plane wouldn't that make a kid or grandkid happy!

Great job.  Hopefully you don't have neighbors with itchy trigger fingers!
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

Yadda, didn't you see the machine guns mounted below the wings ?  they will fire back.

What? No chain driven synchronous, center mounted gun to shoot though the propeller?  Don't foget the hand thrown bombs!

I have no artistic skill so I am very envious!
